The Living Stories is an interactive book series primary for children on mobile devices. It tells three moving stories, each in the form of a digital book enriched by animations, sound effects and read outs. The books were developed by Daedalic Entertainment and published by Ravensburger. They’re available on iTunes, as well as the Windows 8 App Store.
I worked on the project during my 6 month internship at Daedalic Entertainment in 2012. As an engine Unity is used. While working on the project i reworked most part of the sprite engine, improving the sprite packing algorithm and enabling sprite tiling. Furthermore i did some tools development for the Unity Editor to significantly speed up the development process. Besides implementing several new game mechanics, i also enhanced the memory management by adding resource and object pooling to improve loading times. Later on i was solely responsible for porting those books to the then newly opened Windows 8 App Store, supporting Windows RT devices.
